An August Reflection + A Monday Mantra.

It's Monday! ...and with Monday comes a new Lindsey Mantra. This week, I look forward to repeating the following with you: "Be chill, my soul."

Today is special: it's the first Monday of September. 

I've got all the heart eyes for September. It's the month that brings the beginning of fall (the best season, obviously), Salted Caramel Mochas, and dresses-and-tights season.

It is the start of a new week, a new month, and a new season. And with only four months left in 2017, I am starting to form my plans for the last quarter of the year. While my Passion Planner is still very new to me, I have really been enjoying the surprises it has brought so far! At the end of each month, it guides you through a reflection to set you up for success starting a new month. And a little fact about me: I freaking love fresh starts. 

I spent some time this past week filling out my August reflection, and would definitely encourage you to reflect on your last month too. It has been so helpful to identify improvement areas and to review priorities! To guide you in this activity, I've written the prompts and a little of my own answers below!

What was the most memorable part of this past month? Describe it. 

Honeymooning! This month we went on a 10 day vacation that took us through seven states and gave us many new memories in both nostalgic and new places. I also got to see Bruno Mars with two of my best girlfriends! Other notable highlights: sitting on the beach, splashing around in the ocean, going on a ghost tour through Charleston, eating a ton of good food, and having a lot of quality time with my new husband. :) 

Oh! And I started vermicomposting - a.k.a I got a worm farm! I needed a hobby and it happened to come in the form of 1000 red worms and they eat most of our food waste + make a great fertilizer for our plants!

What were the three biggest lessons you've learned this past month? 

  1. Time management is going to be key in surviving the next ten months
  2. Both meal prepping for the week and starting homework early need to become priorities in my life immediately
  3. Schedule recreation and self-care time throughout the week and treat them like they are meetings that cannot be missed!

Review your planner for the past month and assess your priorities. Are you happy with how you spent your time? If not, what steps can you take next month to adjust them? 

Yes! I had a great August with a lot of recreation and exciting new changes. September is also bringing many exciting events (three weddings!!!) and I am looking forward to savoring the joy in each of them!

How are you different between this past month and the month before it? 

School has started, which brings along the responsibilities of my internship, fellowship, and overall coursework while balancing it with work and Letters from Lindsey. I'm doing my best to make sure I am productive and managing my time efficiently! Being busy is good for me :)

What or who are you especially grateful for this past month? 

It's totally cliche, but I am so grateful for my husband, Nick. He is so supportive, motivating, and inspiring for me. I could not have asked for a more positive partner and influence to invite into my life!

Name three things you can improve on this upcoming month. What are concrete actions you can take to work towards these improvements? 

  1. Remember the Monday Mantras: Blogging weekly and inviting all of you to join in with me!
  2. Making time for connection, recreation, and self-care: Scheduling in time for all of this and sticking to it.
  3. Improve my sleep hygiene: Turning my bedroom into a "No Phone Zone" after 9pm to increase my time for reading and sleeping.
